Manhole to Pipe - Seal Gasket

Tested

This picture illustrates a test preformed on the STAR SEAL Manhole to pipe - Seal Gasket.  The resilient connector was tested according to ASTM C-923-79 with an actual head of 24', 1 foot of pressure above that required by the Specification. The test was configured with 48" manhole sections, coupled to a height of 24'.  Two 8" AC Sewer pipes were coupled into the base section with two STAR SEAL Manhole to Pipe - Seal Gaskets. The pipes were made water tight by the use of pipe plugs at the extreme ends.  The pipes were restrained by rebars to prevent blowout under pressure. The system functioned normally when the pipes were deflected to 19 degrees. ASTM C-923-79 requires a deflection test with only 7 degrees deflection. While the pipe was deflected to 19 degrees, a shear test was performed according  to ASTM C-923-79 by adding 1200 lbs. to the top of the 8'AC Sewer pipe.  The weight was placed 24" from the manhole face, while the pipe was  supported by a 6"  rectangular pier, which was placed 48" from the manhole face.  NO LEAKS!! A screw driver was placed between the pipe and the seal causing an intentional leak.  When the screwdriver was removed, NO LEAKS!!
